Hunters very own architect, Peter Gibson, has won the Telegraph and Sony twighlight photography competition and is off to Oz to shoot a football match.
Winners of photography competition will cover the global ‘Twilight Football’ event on September 22 and 23, 2009, Peter and eight members of the public have been recruited as official photographers to cover the matches.
The matches mark the autumnal equinox when twilight is at its longest, seven five-a-side football games will be played in turn, beginning in Italy and ending in South Africa. Peter is covering Australia.
“I have never entered a competition before in my life, but I was struck by the Twilight contest because I had already taken this image with a zoom lens from my balcony window, 12 stories up, in Wandsworth Town. This summer we've had some quite amazing sunsets. I had taken this view across Putney towards Wembley Stadium and was pleased with the colours. I thought it fitted the bill - with the twilight and football stadium - so sent it through on my Flickr account.”
"I was on the bus travelling through Putney on the way to work when I heard I'd won. It was shock, disbelief, then pure excitement. I rang my girlfriend to make sure we could both take time off work to go to the Pinnacles Desert of Western Australia. I've actually been to the location when I worked in Australia for six months. It's an amazing place and I look forward to returning.
